Poinsettia Centerpiece

December 1, 2012 by 12 Comments

Hi and a happy Saturday to you!  Our local home improvement center was bursting with color!!!  Poinsettias, reds, whites, pinks and marbled!  Just too pretty to pass up….these beautiful blooms will definitely add a touch of color to any room of the house during the Christmas holidays.

Love the white….goes with everything!

Check out this vibrant red….beautiful!

Add a pretty pink marbled one into the mix….I love them all!

Now here is what I had in mind when I first laid eyes on them in the store….a centerpiece !  You remember the galvanized pan, my estate sale find?  This would be the perfect container to show off those beautiful blooms.

I chose the white and the marbled Poinsettias for this project.

I placed the marbled Poinsettia in the center,  pot and all and cut the stems (blooms) off the white plant.

Here is a tip I like to share:  Poinsettia’s can be cut and used in floral arrangements, provided the stems are sealed.  Cut the “blooms” with at least 4 inches of stem.  Immediately seal the cut by dipping it in boiling water or holding over a flame for fifteen seconds.  Sealing prevents the sap from oozing from cut and thus preventing the cut stem from wilting.  ”Blooms” should last a week or more.

This is how I arranged the blooms to create this very inexpensive centerpiece.

Small glass jars holding water were placed on the inside of the pan and filled with the fresh cut blooms.

To add even more texture and color  I incorporated some evergreens and gently tucked them in the gaps.

This centerpiece is ready to grace any table in a rustic setting….so much fun to create!

It’s so good to have you here again….please come back soon!

love the white & marble plants. You gave me a good idea for
my little galvanized tub. I don’t care for red poinsettas
as they clash with the furnishings once the trees are taken down.

Anne, I prefer to use the white and marble plants as well. Love the red but it doesn’t work in my house either. Have a great weekend, I hope you’ll create something fun!

How creative and beautiful is that centerpiece! I had no idea that you could cut Pointsettia blooms. I love how you have the evergreens tucked in the pan, too.

  3. Very pretty, and I love the contrast of the flowers and the galvanized pan, and the greenery makes just the right finishing touch!

Thanks for the tip about sealing the stems, I never knew that! I love the juxtaposition of the gorgeous flowers and metal. So pretty!

  5. I didn’t know there were so many different types of poinsettias! I love the marbled kind. And what a gorgeous centerpiece! Thanks for letting us know about how to take care of the blooms of this plant, too — I didn’t know any of that! Happy Weekend!

I still have yet to start decorating for winter! I love Poinsettias because my Grandma always had them all around the house in the winter. I love how you used the evergreen in the centerpiece. Beautiful!!!
