Time for Hot Cocoa

Just can’t pass up a good deal – even if it means going back into the Christmas boxes that have been put up, and adding another item to it. One of my favorite stores in town had their Christmas items marked down 75% off the original price. The table was picked over, hardly anything left but this ornament caught my eye. I loved the wintery image on it, the ice skaters and snow, most of all I loved the plaid tartan ribbon attached to it. Of course, it came home with me and ended up front and center on a small staged ” Hot Cocoa Station”.
Isn’t it just perfect for this time of year? Maybe you are familiar with this ornament and you are a collector of ” Juliska” Country Estate Ceramics? This is my first piece.
Mugs (Noble Excellence) purchased at Dillard’s on clearance.
Now I’m ready to enjoy a cup of hot chocolate with marshmallows on this cold winter day – dreaming of snow and ice-skating. Too bad I never learned how to skate, do you skate?
Creamy Hot Cocoa
Ingredients:
1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
3/4 cup white sugar
1 pinch salt
3-1/2 cups milk
3/4 tsp. vanilla extract
1/2 cup half-and-half cream
Instructions:
Combine the cocoa, sugar and a pinch of salt in a saucepan. Simmer and stir for about 2 minutes. Watch that it doesn’t scorch. Stir in 3-1/2 cups of milk and heat until very hot, but do not boil. Remove from heat and add vanilla. Divide between 4 mugs, add cream to the mugs of cocoa to cool it to drinking temperature.
Enjoy!!

Ive never ice skated but would have loved to have tried. Great find on the orney. You will enjoy this one for years to come! Have a cozy afternoon!
I have to say a cup of hot cocoa sounds really good right now.
What a great vignette… I could go for a cup of cocoa. The ornament is beatuiful! Thank you for linking up and sharing at One More Time.:)
It’s adorable! I purchased some Juliska Christmas candles this season for gifts. They are in adorable ceramic holders with a red wintry scene. I kept one for myself.
Didn’t see these ornaments, or I would have bought some of these too. Will have to be on the watch for them. Great find! Thanks for the hot chocolate.
What a lovely vignette. I love the mugs, and your ornament is the perfect touch without shouting Christmas.

I love the ornament, have never seen them, maybe I have quit collecting a little to soon. The plaid ribbon is perfect on it.
Moni, this sounds yummy! I haven’t put vanilla in hot chocolate before. I will for sure be trying this. A little vanilla is good in pancakes too. I have a recipe for hot chocolate mix that I put together every winter and give out as gifts. It makes a huge container of it. One box/lb powdered sugar, 16 oz Coffeemate(powder), 8 pkgs of instant/dry milk, one container of hot chocolate mix. Mix together well. Put two or three Tblsp in a cup and pour hot water over it. Love your posts.
I love Christmas Decor Sales… so many times, the next year Christmas’ Decor is decided when I buy those items

Love your cocoa station…I could use a cup right now.
The ornament is gorgeous! I’d better get to Dillard’s.
Hi Moni, That is an interesting recipe for hot chocolate! Yes, we all skate here in New England. I have lived at various times in Maine and Boston, where skating is part of the DNA of the people! Your ornament is so sweet. I have never heard of that ornament collection although I do like the dishes made by Juliska. Linda
One can never go wrong with a little plaid paired with black, white, and red. Lovely vignette!
I love a hot cocoa station in the winter. My youngest daughter loves hot cocoa. I love your new ornament. My children enjoy outdoor skating where hot chocolate is a necessity. Joni
What a wonderful idea. I think I’ll set up a hot cocoa station myself! Love it.
OOOH I love this idea…way to find inspiration from the ornament! I love those mugs. Come link up to centerpiece Wed and share your post.
